Hostas Are Blooming

Such delicate little blooms.
After thinning the hosta bed at my dad's home about four years ago, I brought home some raggedy little plants and plunked them in my front bed with hopes they'd survive.
They have completely exceeded expectations.

Herbs

Although I'm fairly new to growing herbs, I've enjoyed feeling some success.

Daily Harvest

My harvest isn't huge, but it's so satisfying to see it each day.  I nearly always snap a photo.  I just can't help it.  I think it's so pretty, then I scroll through my phone and see that I have a dozen pictures of daily harvests that all look pretty much the same.

Catching a Possum

Our woods have many possums, I'm sure.
But, this one was much too interested in the chicken coops.
We wish him the best of luck in his new forest home!

Lots of Deer

They like the meadow just on the other side of the pond.
As we come around the hillside, they always freeze and stare at us.  Then one will make a sneeze-like sound, and they scatter.

Bell Peppers

My red peppers and yellow peppers have decided to stay green. That's okay.

So Many Tomatoes

The counter may be full of cookies in December,
but I'll choose the July counter when it's full of tomatoes.

Squirrel and Sunflower

A sunflower has over a thousand seeds.

He's not going to stop until this one has zero.

Marigolds

Marigolds... pretty name, pretty flower.
My garden always has and always will have a border or marigolds.  Maybe it's because I've heard they're a good companion for tomatoes.  Maybe it's because both of my grandmas had marigolds around their gardens.

Porch Garden

Gardens come in all shapes and sizes.
I expanded my garden by planting in pots this year, so I call this my "pot garden."  It makes makes me laugh.

Doe and her Fawns

Frolic is a word that doesn't get used much.  Happy twin fawns make you want to use it though. They frolic until their mama makes a sound like a sneeze, then their white tails go up, and they disappear into the trees.

Squash Blossom

The squash plants are huge... long thick stems, wide lush leaves, and beautiful yellow blossoms hidden underneath.

Pretty Plants

They just beg to be admired!
At first glance it's just a bed of beautiful, lush hostas.
But look closer... to see what's tucked in between and behind.

Morning Hawk

He sits there every morning.  My little red bench makes the perfect perch for him to survey the yard beside the garden.
He is magnificent.

Mama Hen & Her Chicks

It was the chicks' first day out in the big wide world.

Their mama has so much to teach them.  After three days in the coop, she decided it was time to explore a little further. She never lets them fall too far behind as they run after her, and she never stops her gentle clucking to herd them along.

New Chicks

The mama hen stays in the far corner of the coop, puffs up her feathers, and clucks angrily when I check on them... for the tenth time.

She tries to keep her new chicks under her, but they're beginning to get curious. I hadn't noticed the dug-out space between the two coops that stand side by side.
One little one walked right under and found herself in the Cousin House.  The other only went half way and used the crack between to get outside them both. Mama was beside herself to get her babies back in the Friends House with her.
I'd like to say they all appreciated my help with reuniting them.
But, no. Such squawking and carrying on!
