Best of Serendipity (November & December 2025)

Last harvests of 2025. Good job little garden, good job.
Funny little hens. They know the sound of treats being tossed out and come running.
The last few garden tomatoes have turned red.
Our new birdfeeder shows us all the birds who are visiting.
And squirrels...

Best of Serendipity (October 2025)

My houseplants are thrived during the warm months when they become porchplants.
I don't see tree frogs every day, but we do hear them every night!

Best of Serendipity (September 2025)

What a pretty little walking stick.
The back porch makes a lovely office space.
A yard full of chickens is a happy yard.
Okra blossoms are the prettiest.
It's almost time for my house plants to come back inside the house.  Both the plants and I are sad about that.
I always plant little Thumbelina marigolds around my garden.  This year they have gone crazy and taken over.
When they hear a hawk cry, they run for shelter... beside and under my chair.
If there's a competition between vegetables in the garden, the peppers are surely winning this year.

Best of Serendipity (August 2025)

My friend gave me some "nekked lady" bulbs, and they bloomed!! I know they're also called surprise lilies, but that's a boring name for a pretty pink flower!
I went for a Serendipity Walk around home and found pretty things to use in an art project.
The best part of summer is a big red tomato... or a little tomato... or a cherry tomato...

Making a drainage path.
A yard full of hens is a happy yard.
It's nearly impossible not to stop and watch in wonder when a butterfly flits nearby.
Never too many tomatoes!
Playing with my food!

Best of Serendipity (July 2025)

A

Houseplants are so happy to get to live outside for a few months.
Garden ripened tomatoes... simply the best.
Working outside is so peaceful.
This flower row brings me delight.  There's something blooming all summer here.
A mama hen never stops teaching her babies how to be chickens.
Squirrels are so cute... but I'm not a fan.
So pretty!

Mushrooms... we've had lots of them this year.
Occasionally marigolds from around the garden make it inside the house.

It's such a funny little stage when the chicks' feathers begin to come in.
Zoom in... Do you see him? Ribbit!!!

Best of Serendipity (June 2025)

It never gets old to look out the window and see deer, especially when it's a doe and fawn.
A friend gave me some lily bulbs last year.  I put them in the row and forgot.  What a surprise to see them pop up and be so beautiful this year!
My back deck becomes a second garden with pots of herbs, peppers, tomatoes, and marigolds.
It's a good thing squirrels are cute because they are not helpful in any other way.
I love to bring in a basket filled with fresh vegetables.  They're so pretty.  This was my first year to attempt growing garlic.  It was a success!
All of the indoor plants are so happy during the months when they aren't indoor plants!
And another surprise!  There are red ones too! I do love lilies so much. They require nothing. They just show up each year and put on a show for a few weeks.
It's always fun to have chicks.  Fancy-like was broody for a long time, so we got babies, waited until dark, then slipped them under her. She was quite proud and fiercely protective the next morning.

Best of Serendipity (April & May 2025)

April showers...
Even when the rain pours and the ditch becomes a river, chickens still need to be looked after.
There's always one last freezing night.

Whooooo's that I spy in the tree?
The back porch is the perfect office space on spring mornings.
The side porch railing is my salad bar... complete with chicken wire covering since the deer think it's also their salad bar.
Every corner of the deck has a pot with some kind of plant in it. It's like a bonus garden.
Let the summer season begin!!
Welcome Elfie! (Elfaba is our new little bantam hen.  She's black, but her feathers shine green in the sun.)

What a pretty little thing!  She follows close to me when I'm outside, my little partner.

The other six haven't been mean to her, but they haven't been very welcoming either.
How fun to see my beautiful amaryllis bloom.
