Best of Serendipity (March 2025)

Daffodils are the sign that spring has returned.

Onions are the first thing to be planted.

Marie, Twinkle, Ruby Jean, Eleanor, Fancy-like, Pauline

Hmmm... 

First thing each morning, they come to peck some seeds or worms from my hand.

Squirrels... we should be completely annoyed by them, but they make us laugh.

The upstairs bathroom makes a pretty good greenhouse.

The deer like to hang out in the trees behind our deck.  They seem to get along just fine with the chickens.

It's great to have a helper when it's time to start the garden.

 What a surprise to find such a tiny green egg in the nesting box!

 It's good to have a beautiful snow a couple of times each year. 

9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30.

Best of Serendipity (January 2025)

The backyard is pretty in every season.  The hens opted to stay in their coops a while rather than come out into the snow.

When the snow is fresh and new, everything is so quiet.

Just 6 little hens these days.  But they're the sweetest girls.

Yes, I do take a photo of the tree across from my mailbox again and again.  It's just too fabulous!

It only takes a shake of the sunflower seed container, and they come running!

He's a good partner.  He keeps an eye on me.

Best of Serendipity (October 2024)

Little frog claimed this pepper.  It's ok. He can have this one.

Our driveway in October really is the best ever.

It's nice to look out the kitchen window and see the forest friends strolling by.

I've never seen these little green frogs before, but they keep appearing this year.

Our yellow forest is beautiful, but so is are the trees in the yard across the driveway.

It's not often that we see a squirrel just chilling out on a branch. They're usually on the go.

They really do make the yard colorful.

This little guy got to move to a new forest home. 

As the garden empties, the freezer fills.

Best of Serendipity (August 2024)

My harvests make me smile each day.  So, I made them smile back at me!

My houseplants thrive during the months that they get to live outside.

Having an herb garden has been a fun new thing to try.

We know that autumn is coming when the squirrels sit in the big hickory tree munching on nuts and tossing the hulls down onto the deck.

Marie has laid her first egg. We know it's her because her legs are goldish.  Her eggs will be brown,  Maisy has grayish legs, so her eggs will be blue.

When a possum figures out how to open the bin and help himself to the chicken's food, he gets a snack in a trap then a car ride then a new home.

Another early sign of autumn is the red leaf on the sassafras tree.

Sweet little family!

The garden isn't finished, but it's slowing down.

Once I pulled the tomato plant out of this pot, it made the perfect dust-bath.

I  think it's about to slow down, but the garden isn't finished yet!

 Everybody needs a drink at the same time.

Best of Serendipity (July 2024)

I wondered why the herbs wouldn't grow in this pot.  I think he takes a dust bath there every day.

I'm not sure what made this little guy show up outside the backdoor, but it seemed like he'd enjoy a snack.  (He ate the tomato and left the piece of pepper and squash.)

Fancy-like and her (big) chicks were unimpressed with the guest.

Now, how does a zucchini go unnoticed and get so big!

They know I'm watching them watching me.

There's so much variety in all the colors and shapes of each day's haravest.
